Music that connects hearts

11 Feb 2025

Dakari is a DJ and producer whose journey into music is a story of resilience, passion, and the courage to follow one's dreams—no matter the obstacles. In an exclusive interview with ELLE O’zbekiston, Karina shares her path, her first time on stage, her mentors, inspirations, and plans for the future.

Music as destiny

Dakari’s love for music started in childhood. She attended music school and dreamed of becoming a DJ, but financial constraints prevented her from pursuing formal training. That dream remained buried… for 17 years.

But everything changed during a silent retreat. "After several days in complete silence, I realized: I want to share music with people." Starting a new career at 32, as a mother of two, in a foreign country, without investments or connections, was challenging. "But when you have a strong intention, the universe brings the right people and opportunities your way," she says.

First steps & first performance

Dakari’s debut was both nerve-wracking and exhilarating. "I felt like I was defending a diploma. But when I saw my friends in the crowd cheering me on, my nerves became joyous. After my set, I was immediately offered another gig—it was a sign I was on the right path."

Style, mentorship & the secrets of the dance floor

Dakari’s signature sound is Afro House. "This music has always played in my headphones. I’m drawn to emotional, sensual, and energetic beats that connect people’s hearts."

She credits her mentor, Dima Mitch (music editor at ELLE O’zbekiston), for guiding her through the industry. "I'm grateful for his knowledge and for the way he introduced me to the world of music."

For Karina, the key to being a great DJ is authenticity. "I choose tracks that give me goosebumps. A DJ must love what they play while also tuning into the energy of the crowd. The more experience you have, the better you get at reading the room."

Women in the industry & breaking stereotypes

"There are more and more women in DJing, but stereotypes still exist. Some people question our technical skills, while others assume it’s easier for women to get gigs. But I believe talent and dedication are what truly matter. The key is not wasting energy proving yourself, just focus on getting better."

Dakari’s advice for aspiring DJs

  1. Ask yourself honestly: Why do you want this? Knowing your true motivation will help guide your path.
  2. Don’t fear change. "Leaving a stable job was scary, but fear always signals an opportunity for growth."
  3. Keep evolving. Define your style, master your technique, and build your music library.

The brightest moments & big dreams

For Karina, every performance is special. "Some crowds give off incredible energy, while others push me to improve technically."

Her most memorable gigs so far were in Koh Samui with its breathtaking beach clubs and in Tashkent, a city she dreams of returning to.

And ahead lie the festivals. "Coachella, Tomorrowland... I know I'll be there one day."

Music & inspiration

Dakari has already released her first track, though her main focus has been DJing. "Now, I plan to devote more time to producing original music. As a child, I had a CD on my vision board. It turns out everything is unfolding as it should."

Her goals for 2025:

  • Release several tracks, one of which will be a banger.
  • Expand her audience through global touring.
  • Work with top artists in the industry.
  • Grow her own label and discover new talents.

The three most important qualities of a DJ

  1. Stay true to yourself.
  2. Read the crowd.
  3. Be open and communicative.

A heartfelt message from Dakari

"If you feel like you're not where you're meant to be – think back to what you dreamed of as a child. The answer is there. Anything is possible if you believe in yourself and take action.

Dream, live, and dance with your heart!"
