How to use scrubs during summertime
Out with the old to make way for the new—scrubs and peels help renew skin cells and properly prepare your skin for tanning.
Summer isn’t the best time for active use of scrubs, as our skin is already under a lot of stress from the heat. Nevertheless, many of us use them precisely in summer because a tan lays perfectly on smooth, cleansed skin. How to do it right?
One thing you should avoid during the summer is deep salon cleansing procedures and acid peels. While these methods are effective in their own right, it’s best to save them for late autumn or early spring when the skin is less exposed to the negative effects of active sun and wind.
For proper preparation for the beach season, first and foremost, pay attention to salon procedures. A cosmetologist will select the products and type of care that are right for you, helping you avoid allergies and irritations. Our recommendation is a coffee scrub. Besides its invigorating aroma, its advantage lies in its natural composition, which is well-tolerated even by very sensitive skin. Cleansing with such procedures is available in SPA salons, but can also be done at home.
When choosing a product, pay attention to its composition and features—for hot weather, it’s best to choose the most delicate products (for example, the antioxidant peel mask with cinnamon by June Jacobs or the light gel with bamboo and lychee particles “Radiance and Tenderness” by Alpeor).
Be cautious with products containing ground apricot pits. They are quite popular but may not be suitable for sensitive skin. Similarly, salt-based scrubs (which usually contain sea salt) depend on personal tolerance but are generally quite harsh. If you tolerate salt baths well, you can give them a try.
A good option for summer is sugar scrubs. They are softer than salt scrubs, effectively cleanse without damaging the skin, and help normalize cell function. They can be used regularly while showering or bathing. The Birch Body Scrub by Weleda gently removes dead skin cells: its formula contains natural sugar surfactants combined with fine abrasive granules, which gently yet deeply cleanse the skin.
If you are planning a trip to the seaside, try to prepare in advance—use scrubs a day or two before hitting the beach. This way, you can thoroughly cleanse your skin, ensuring smoothness, softness, and a perfect tan.
