Tashkent’s music community is expanding and exploring bold new formats. The creative collective Sublimation.lab, already known for bringing Boiler Room to Uzbekistan in 2023, continues to push the boundaries of sound and culture. Boiler Room, the global underground music platform from London, made its Central Asian debut thanks to their efforts.

In 2024, Sublimation.lab hosted a full-scale music festival at the Palace of Culture for Aviation Workers, blending conferences on music and modernist architecture with masterclasses, live performances, and immersive installations curated by Aziza Qodiriy.

Supporting independent artists was at the heart of the event, which united emerging local talent with renowned musicians like Adana Twins, Bjarki, ZenGxrl, Ivan Dorn, Konsta, Setora, Hayriniso, and the National Symphony Orchestra.

This year, the team once again surprised the scene – this time with a real “TO'Y” (traditional Uzbek wedding celebration). Guests were welcomed in a classic “toyhona” setting, with live performances on karnay and surnay. The night’s lineup was curated to move fluidly from these ancient sounds into the world of modern electronic music. Floral décor, candlelit tables, and ambient lighting added to the wedding-inspired atmosphere, while guests arrived in accessories and outfits that echoed national aesthetics. Live vocal performances woven into DJ sets amplified the sense of connection between past and present, creating a truly sacred, celebratory space.

The program featured sets by Doppi Twins X Hayriniso, ianiiiron X Alenzo, Xyarim X Josef Tumari, Sabinē X Sabina Mustaeva, and Loud 373 – each performance infused with deep respect for Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage.

The evening's surprise guest was Rayhon, an icon of the Uzbek music scene. Her unannounced appearance and live performance became the high point of the night.

Sublimation.lab defines itself as an ecosystem for the development of music and culture in Uzbekistan, connecting artists, producers, researchers, and listeners. The platform fosters dialogue between tradition and innovation, supports new modes of creative expression, and helps emerging local talent grow, experiment, and reach international audiences.
