SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is the level of protection from ultraviolet rays that your chosen cosmetic product provides. It determines how long you can stay in the sun without risking sunburn. SPF levels typically range from 10 to 50 units—the higher the number on the packaging, the greater the protection.

Time and place

In the city, where you are exposed to the active sun only between your home and office, it is enough to use skincare cream with protection against aggressive environmental factors (or a foundation with SPF).

For a seaside vacation, choose special sunscreen cosmetics with filters that start working immediately upon application. These products withstand intense sun and provide all-day protection. For problem areas or moles, get a special waterproof stick with a high SPF (such as those from Vichy). In the evening, after cleansing your skin, apply a moisturizing mask.

Choosing the right “protectors”

When selecting an SPF product, consider several factors. First, the phototype (there are four in total)—fair-skinned brunettes, delicate blondes, and redheads will need the highest (50+) level of protection (good options are available from Shiseido). Second, geography and climate—hot Uzbekistan, the UAE, and the cool Atlantic coast require different “protectors.” Third, the presence of sand and water significantly reduces the effectiveness of sunscreens. The product wears off due to mechanical impact and washes away with seawater. Cosmetologists recommend reapplying the product after each swim in the sea.

Making the most of your time

Choosing a sunscreen with nourishing components is advisable, as being in the active sun is stressful for the skin, which can be mitigated by nourishing it with vitamins, antioxidants, and gentle plant extracts. The best options can be found in Dior and Lancaster.

Try to prefer products from trusted companies, produced in the EU, USA, Israel, and Australia—where SPF levels in cosmetic products are most rigorously controlled.
