Where mountains and deserts meet: the country's breathtaking natural landscapes
Uzbekistan is more than ancient cities and unique architectural monuments. It is a land of unexplored natural landscapes that everyone should experience. From mysterious canyons and crystal-clear lakes to endless deserts and majestic mountain views…
Kulasya Waterfall, Tashkent Region
Hidden in the gorge of the Kulasya River, this waterfall captivates with its beauty and solitude. It stands about 15 meters high, with water cascading down steep rocks to create natural pools below. The gorge is surrounded by lush greenery and rocky mountains, making it an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility and a deep connection with nature.
Aydarkul Lake, Jizzakh Region
Aydarkul Lake is nestled among the sands of the Kyzylkum Desert in the Jizzakh region. It’s one of Central Asia’s largest bodies of water, surrounded by steppes and sand dunes. The lake has many rare bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and eagles. Visitors can also swim and enjoy the lake’s pristine waters.
Arashan Lakes, Namangan Region
A group of high-altitude lakes located in the vicinity of the Chatkal Range, known as the Arashan Lakes, sits at an elevation of about 1,600 meters above sea level. To reach them, one must traverse mountain passes and gorges. The lake’s water is incredibly clear and transparent, with a crystal-blue hue. It’s believed that the water here has healing properties, and many come to touch this “living water” that offers health and longevity.
Sangardak Waterfall, Surkhandarya Region
The name of the waterfall translates from Tajik as “noisy,” perfectly describing this location. Sangardak is one of Uzbekistan’s most powerful waterfalls. The crystal-clear water, sourced from underground springs, plunges from a height of over 15 meters with a roar. The green valleys and lush vegetation surrounding it create a true oasis amidst Surkhandarya’s endless mountainous landscapes.
Jade Lakes of Urungach, Tashkent Region
The lakes are situated in a mountainous hollow within the Ugam-Chatkal National Park. The name reflects the vibrant jade surface of the water that fascinates visitors. Here, away from the city’s hustle and bustle, you can feel the mountain’s coolness and enjoy the crystal-clear beauty of the scenic waters.
Ustyurt Plateau, Republic of Karakalpakstan
Located between the Caspian and Aral Seas, the Ustyurt Plateau is considered one of the most mysterious places in Central Asia. Ustyurt stretches for hundreds of kilometers and consists of canyons, steep cliffs, and rocky plains. Visitors come here for eco-tours and expeditions to explore its unique natural and archaeological sites. It’s the perfect place to enjoy mesmerizing red sunsets and an endless starry sky.
