Artists reimagine the Canasta trench
On September 25, Weekend Max Mara will present its Spring 2026 capsule collection “A Weekend With an Artist.” The project is curated by art critic Francesco Bonami, bringing together five female artists – Victoria Kosheleva, Paola Pivi, Tschabalala Self, Tai Shani, and Shafei Xia – to reinterpret the brand’s signature Canasta trench coat. Victoria Kosheleva created a print of chessboard squares, an eye, swirls, and flowers. Shafei Xia painted a woman merging with a white tiger, using watercolor on a sandalwood leaf. Paola Pivi, inspired by Hawaiian rainbows, introduced vertical stripes that shape the silhouette. Tschabalala Self adorned a pastel-yellow trench with pink “infinite flowers.” Tai Shani chose glossy black vinyl decorated with painted cats.
The collection will be unveiled at CC Tapis in Milan.
