A good shade
Which foundation to choose?
A new-generation foundations help achieve a flawless, even skin tone – whether matte or with a slight glow.
Even if your skin has no significant flaws, it may not always look perfect. A smooth, even texture and freshness are what we aim for every day. Therefore, a foundation is a must-have in your makeup bag. You may not use it daily, but it can refresh your face, hide the signs of fatigue, and hide minor imperfections when needed.
What should you consider when choosing a foundation?
Product’s consistency
Liquid foundation – full-coverage or lightweight; thick, in powder form; cream-to-powder; BB or CC cream; loose mineral powder… Feeling overwhelmed? We’ll guide you on what to consider when choosing a product.
Classifying skin types as oily, normal, or dry is very general. Each person’s skin and body have unique characteristics, and there is also a risk of developing an allergy to one of the foundation’s components.
As a general rule, lightweight mattifying textures and dry powders are more suitable for hot seasons.
The best advice we can give is to visit a store and apply the product directly to your face. Be sure to step outside into natural daylight, as store lighting is artificial. If you’re unsure about your choice, ask the consultant for a sample and examine your reflection in a mirror at home.
Your skin type
For dry skin, products based on oils or with moisturizing components (such as hyaluronic acid) may be suitable. Good, reliable products are available from global brands – consider products from Chanel, Dior, Armani, and Estée Lauder. They offer a wide range of shades, and their formulas are constantly being improved. Each brand has its characteristics – Chanel has many textures with a slight glow (don’t be afraid to try them, they give a very delicate radiance). Dior products are better suited for normal or oily skin. Armani products are almost invisible on the skin, providing a natural matte effect.
Time and place
It’s important to understand in advance what you need a foundation for and how you plan to use it.
If you have normal or oily skin and can touch up your makeup throughout the day, choose a mineral powder (don’t forget to get a wide, soft brush for it).
If you want to apply foundation in the morning and forget about it all day, it’s better to choose a light liquid product with a mattifying texture. For special occasions – evening outings, weddings – it’s best to consult with a makeup artist. For photos and videos, professional cosmetics with a full-coverage effect, and dry texture are used – they last longer and are best suited for shooting.
The choice of shade
When choosing a foundation, consider what your makeup will look like, as well as your skin and hair color.
The perfect foundation should closely match your natural skin tone. In the summer, you can use a shade one tone darker than usual since we tan (or want to appear more tanned) even while in the city. If you have fair skin, ensure the foundation doesn’t make you look too pale.
The most universal shades are natural beiges without yellow or pink pigments. The first ones can add age and look bad with bright lipstick, while the other ones can make you look like a doll.
For achieving a desired peach or bronze tint, it’s better to use blush. Your foundation should be your secret weapon.
