Burgundy: the fanciest color of fall
How to embrace and incorporate it into your wardrobe
Each season, the palette lines up in competition for the title of the trendiest shade. Graphite, bright red, olive… now, it’s time for burgundy.
This season, brands have introduced nearly every wardrobe element in this rich shade. You can create a head-to-toe look or focus on accent pieces like a cardigan, roomy bag, gloves, cap, sneakers, or loafers.
Burgundy pairs beautifully with a wide range of colors, from beige, blue, and green to peach, grey, white, brown, lilac, and black.
Chloé suggests combining different textures like lace, leather, and durable trench fabrics. Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini showcased a daring combo of a draped burgundy dress paired with bright lime silk shoes. Among our favorites is Etro, with its combination of deep graphite and burgundy. MSGM took things a step further, insisting on mixing burgundy with red. For a balanced look, both shades should be in the same temperature range.
ELLE has gathered examples of burgundy-inspired looks that appeared on the fashion houses’ runways.
