Flip-Flops: not just for the beach
Trendy footwear hits the city streets
We all remember when flip-flops were worn to the pool or for running around the neighborhood. They have taken over the runways of the world's fashion capitals.
Proenza Schouler, Chanel, and Miu Miu offer a variety of designs: from white leather with wide straps to black velvet and versions with colorful laces. Popular models include those with thin soles and straps that secure the foot, as well as the classic flip-flops but with heels.
Bella Hadid opts for flip-flops on high platforms, pairing them with tops and slip skirts. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence drew attention on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival – the actress paired a red voluminous dress with black patent flip-flops.
Influencers share a love for this comfortable footwear. They wear their interpretations with silk dresses, jeans, knit, and suit sets – in short, they pair them with every element of their wardrobe.
Although the peak of flip-flop popularity was in the 2000s, the history of this footwear stretches back many centuries. They are rightly considered one of the oldest types of footwear, originating in ancient Egypt. While the strap can be shifted to other toes, the classic Y-shaped design with a flat sole remains popular in 2024.
