Gucci opens exhibition in Tokyo
Dedicated to the iconic Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag
The luxury fashion house Gucci has unveiled an exhibition titled Bamboo 1947: Now and Then, dedicated to its iconic handbag featuring a bamboo handle. The exhibition marks the 60th anniversary of the opening of Gucci’s first boutique in Japan.
The Gucci Ginza Gallery in Tokyo showcases 60 vintage Bamboo 1947 bags, reimagined by Japanese artisans and contemporary artists.
Japanese ceramicist Hirotsune Nakazato recreated the handles and locks for the Bamboo 1947 bags using clay, while jeweler Morihito Katsura, along with his apprentice Naoko Ai, crafted them from precious metals. Other participants in the exhibition include lacquer artist Ai Tokeshi, photographer Daido Moriyama, and artists Nami Yokoyama and Yui Yaegashi.
The exhibition at Gucci Ginza Gallery in Tokyo is open to the public until September 23rd.
