Met Gala 2024: how was the main fashion night of the year
The theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with “The Garden of Time” dress code.
The first Monday of May always heralds the Met Gala in New York – the annual ball of the Costume Institute. The event served as the opening for the exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” at the Metropolitan Museum. It aimed to showcase the items that can no longer be worn.
The Met Gala received its theme according to the name of the exhibition, and the dress code was chosen as “The Garden of Time”.
Dua Lipa appeared as a bird in Marc Jacobs, Jennifer Lopez dazzled in sparkling Schiaparelli, and Nicole Kidman wore a reimagined 1951 Balenciaga dress.
Rebecca Ferguson chose a Thom Browne transformer dress – rhinestones, bird silhouettes, and shoes resembling bird claws. A delicate dress with crystal birds on the shoulders was created by Balmain for Elle Fanning.
One more outfit made from an unusual material was worn by actress Taylor Russell. Loewe created a wood corset and complemented it with a silk hem featuring a large drapery.
Kim Kardashian turned to Maison Margiela, completing her metallic silver look with a gray cashmere cardigan. Her sister Kylie chose a sleek dress by Oscar de la Renta.
Phoebe Dynevor also chose a delicate look. The actress turned to Victoria Beckham’s brand for a light pink dress. Small flowers were hidden under the light fabric.
Kendall Jenner chose an archival option, appearing on the carpet in a 1997 Alexander McQueen-era Givenchy dress. Zendaya decided not to limit herself to just one outfit: she wore both Maison Margiela and John Galliano. Lana Del Rey’s look referred to a 2006 Alexander McQueen design but was created by Sean McGirr.
Jennie from “Blackpink” chose a dark blue mini dress by Alaia with a long cape. The look was completed with a pearl chain at the waist
In 2024 the Met Gala was dominated by flowers and birds, and such great brands as Alexander McQueen and John Galliano became the triumphators this year.
