In March 2025, Jonathan Anderson announced his departure from the fashion house Loewe to take on the role of creative director at Dior. The news coincided with the 10th anniversary of his very first and most beloved handbag design – the now-iconic Puzzle Bag.

The Puzzle Bag originally debuted in Loewe’s Spring/Summer menswear collection in June 2015, and was soon after presented during the women’s show that September. From the moment it stepped into the spotlight, the Puzzle Bag quickly became a favorite among celebrities and fashion aficionados alike, thanks to its innovative construction and timeless appeal. “I set out to find a new way of building a bag, fundamentally questioning its structure. It was about deconstructing a conventional bag to create a flat object with a tridimensional function.” Anderson explained during the press release for the launch.

This year, Loewe unveiled a capsule collection of 19 reinterpretations of the Puzzle, celebrating some of the most striking and memorable versions of the design since its inception. The collection includes the pink suede bag from the Fall/Winter 2015 collection, a soft suede model from Spring/Summer 2018, a black-and-white polka-dot version, an anime-inspired edition, and the serene blue “Cloud” Puzzle, printed with a clear sky motif. The lineup also features limited reissues of pieces adorned with artwork by Ken Price and William Morris, several cult favorites from the Paula’s Ibiza collection, and many more variations that have captured the hearts of individuals across a spectrum of tastes and styles.

In addition to the re-released models, Loewe also introduced an entirely new design – the Confetti-style Puzzle Bag, adorned with shimmering leather sequins. The piece was inspired by the "confetti cubes" installation by artist Lara Favaretto, known for her expressive paintings and sculptures. The installation consisted of 21 cubes, each made from compressed confetti, that decorated the runway during the Fall/Winter 2023 women's wear show. The philosophy behind this installation, as with much of Favaretto’s work, centered on the fragility and transience of man-made objects. As the models walked down the runway, the cubes gradually fell apart, visually embodying the message the artist intended to convey.

For ten years now, the Puzzle Bag has reflected a new chapter in fashion. Its architectural form, unconventional and daring design, and exquisite attention to detail set a new standard, offering a breath of fresh air in the industry.
