The Louvre is to host its first-ever fashion exhibition
Featuring around 65 fashion ensembles and 30 accessories
For the first time, the Louvre will open an exhibition dedicated to fashion. The goal of the project is to explore the relationship between contemporary design and historical artifacts from the museum’s collection.
The exhibition will feature around 65 fashion ensembles and 30 accessories, presented by fashion houses and designers from France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The display will bring together the latest fashion trends with precious artifacts from periods ranging from the Middle Ages to the Second French Empire.
“With this project, we aim to understand why museums have been of interest and importance to renowned couturiers and how our collections can inspire the works of other designers,” shares Olivier Gabet, Director of the Louvre’s Department of Decorative Arts.
The exhibition will also showcase late works by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, and pieces by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Alexander McQueen, and Christian Louboutin, all of which were inspired by museum collections.
The exhibition will run from January 24 to July 21 next year.
