The Pierre Cardin Museum opens in Venice
Venice is now home to a new museum dedicated to Pierre Cardin, celebrating the legacy of the visionary designer and his pioneering approach to fashion, design, and architecture
During the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, the Maison Pierre Cardin opened a museum dedicated to its founder. Located in the historic Santa Croce district, the museum occupies Palazzo Bragadin, which once served as Pierre Cardin’s Venetian residence.
Spanning approximately 1,000 square metres, the new space explores Cardin’s creative legacy through fashion, design, and architecture. The exhibition brings together more than 350 works, including historical and contemporary garments, original sketches, haute couture pieces, furniture, lighting, and design objects. The exhibition journey reveals different facets of the designer’s legacy and his distinctive approach to form.

For Cardin, clothing was always closely connected to architecture, with each silhouette conceived as a structure in its own right. This vision is particularly evident in the geometry, freedom of line, and unconventional proportions that define his work. The museum also highlights his celebrated «Utilitarian Sculptures» — a collection of furniture, lighting, and objects created by the designer. Their expressive sculptural quality continues to feel remarkably contemporary today. Through these works, Palazzo Bragadin presents Cardin not only as a couturier, but also as a creative visionary who transformed the way fashion and design could intersect.

Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, the designer’s nephew and President of the Maison Pierre Cardin, played a central role in the creation of the museum. His ambition was not simply to preserve the archive, but to present Cardin’s legacy as a living and evolving story.
Venice was a natural setting for the project, given Pierre Cardin’s profound connection to the city. Palazzo Bragadin was a place of retreat and creativity for the designer, where he worked on sketches, reflected, and found inspiration. The opening of the museum continues this connection, linking Cardin’s legacy with the history and spirit of Venice itself.

As part of the evening, the Pierre Cardin House hosted a costume reception, reviving the tradition of Venice’s legendary masked balls.
The event took place exactly 75 years after Charles de Beistegui’s legendary «Ball of the Century» at Palazzo Labia. For that occasion, the young Pierre Cardin created around thirty costumes, establishing his name among the most memorable chapters of Venice’s glamorous social history. Now, his own former residence has become a space where that story finds a new chapter.
