It all begins in front of the mirror. A powder puff touches a cheek, a strand of hair falls across a face, traces of blended shades linger on a palette. These familiar moments set the mood for Toolbox. Wonki Seo photographs them up close, paying attention to the natural texture of skin, the sheen of makeup and the movement of hands.
Portraits alternate with still lifes of objects you might find on a dressing table. Pink cheeks sit alongside thick strokes of pigment; sleek hair and dark lips give way to tousled blonde strands with an unexpected touch of yellow. The changing looks suggest the freedom to try on different moods and give yourself a little more room for colour.
