ICHKARI, a new cultural space in Tashkent
ICHKARI welcomed its first guests on September 24.
Inside are painted doors, embroidered panels, ceramics and contemporary art. The rooms retain the warmth of a home: a wooden cabinet filled with crockery, a large table laid with a burgundy tablecloth, sofas lining the walls. The courtyard, with its white balconies and persimmon tree, deserves a moment of its own.
The name ICHKARI refers to the inner part of a traditional Uzbek home, where family life unfolded. Today, the space aims to bring together exhibitions, research and gastronomy. Judging by the opening, it’s a place best explored slowly: take a closer look at the textiles and ceramics, wander through the rooms, then step out into the courtyard.
