Art and sports may seem like two entirely different worlds, but they have more in common than we might imagine. Both art and sports require discipline, dedication, and a strong work ethic to excel. Both realms have the power to inspire, entertain, and unite people.

Athletes are often compared to dancers or other artists for their grace and skill on the field or court. Take football, a sport often associated with breathtaking theatrical performances. The beautiful, energetic movements and a creative approach to the game create a visually complete and aesthetically pleasing experience. Footballers are often described as “dancing with the ball” or as “true artists,” drawing crowds to stadiums just to witness their performance.

If we consider another sport like volleyball, we can also find numerous intersections with art. Volleyball requires coordination, agility, and synchronized movements, which can be likened to dance choreography. Team players must move harmoniously and cohesively to achieve the best results, often reminding one of dance performances.

Volleyball matches can provide viewers with an aesthetic pleasure. The smooth, rapid, and precise movements of the players, the tense moments, and the dynamic nature of the game create a performance that, in itself, is a form of art. Sports photographers strive to capture unique and beautiful moments from the match, creating stunning images that can be considered true works of art.

In this way, volleyball and art are connected through physical expression, aesthetic perception, emotional impact, and the creative elements present in both disciplines.

Art can also be used as a tool for healing and personal growth for athletes. Many professional athletes have turned to art as a way to cope with the physical and mental demands of their careers. Art therapy is also used to help athletes deal with injuries and the stress of competition.

Sport through the eyes of an artist

Werner Bronkhorst

A creative person by nature, Werner grew up experimenting with various techniques and mediums to find what he liked most and to discover himself. At just 22 years old, contemporary artist Werner Bronkhorst has already achieved the success and creative freedom that many others dream of.

Known as a revolutionary in the creative industry with incredible authenticity, Werner currently lives and works as an artist in the inner western suburbs of Australia.

Werner is originally from South Africa. He went to Australia for a one-year vacation and ended up staying in the country permanently. He started working as a builder and making furniture. With his skills in working with raw materials, Werner realized he wanted to create works of art. He enjoyed painting the finer details.

After living in Australia for three years, Werner immersed himself in the art scene and found a supportive creative community.

While working on his art, he filmed videos of how he created his pieces and posted them on TikTok. The main subjects of Werner’s works are skiers, surfers, and other athletes.
