A few thoughtful details are enough to give your interior an autumn mood. Soft lighting, textured fabrics and natural materials help set the scene for long evenings at home.

Add a few small lamps

A table lamp on a chest of drawers, beside the sofa or even on the kitchen worktop creates a cosy pool of light. Try switching on several local light sources in the evening — the room will feel softer, and your favourite chair even more inviting for reading.

Change your cushion covers

A couple of new covers can change the mood of the whole living room. Choose expressive textures and warm shades — chocolate, terracotta or muted burgundy. Combine them with the textiles you already own so the update feels natural.

Bring in natural materials

A woven basket for a blanket, a wooden tray or a ceramic vase will make the space feel visually warmer. Start with one practical piece — a basket keeps things tidy, while a tray gathers cups, a book and small objects into a neat arrangement.
