Documentary film from Uzbekistan to be screened at Berlinale 2025
Sabina Bakaeva’s film becomes the third production from Uzbekistan to be featured in the festival’s program
Sabina Bakaeva’s debut film “Nudity” (Nagota) marks the third Uzbek film to be included in the prestigious Berlinale lineup. Previously, Saodat Ismailova’s “40 Days of Silence” premiered at the festival in 2014, while Yusup Razykov’s “Orator” was showcased in 2000.
Born in 1995 in Saint Petersburg, Sabina Bakaeva has spent her entire life in Uzbekistan, where she works as a journalist. In 2023, she participated in a joint workshop by the renowned French film school Ateliers Varan and the Tashkent Film School, during which she created her debut film.
“I proposed making a film about my mother and the transformation of her character. From someone used to living under restrictions without personal hobbies, she blossomed after turning 60, embracing numerous passions: singing, swimming, yoga, psychology, and playing the piano. She even enrolled in university,” Sabina shared with Elle O'zbekiston.
