Seven steps to healthy and glowing skin
The path to an ideal skincare

Beautiful, well-cared-for skin isn’t just about good genetics, it’s the result of consistent and well-structured skincare. It’s not only important to use high-quality products but also to apply them in the right order. Let’s break down a step-by-step routine that truly works.
Step 1: Cleansing
Cleansing is the foundation of any skincare routine, as it directly impacts the effectiveness of all subsequent products. In the evening, double cleansing is essential: first, remove makeup, sunscreen, and excess sebum with a cleansing balm, oil, or micellar water. Then, follow up with a gel or foam cleanser to thoroughly purify the pores. In the morning, a gentle cleanser is enough to remove sebum and any residue from nighttime skincare. Your skin should feel fresh, not tight – tightness indicates a compromised skin barrier.

Step 2: Exfoliation
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, refine texture, and enhance the absorption of active ingredients. You can use either scrubs or chemical exfoliants, such as acids, which work more gently by dissolving dead cells. Exfoliation should be done 1–3 times a week, depending on your skin type. Over-exfoliating can lead to irritation, a weakened skin barrier, and increased sensitivity.

Step 3: Toning
Toner completes the cleansing process, restores the skin’s natural pH balance, and improves product absorption. It can be applied with hands or a cotton pad, depending on the texture. Choose a toner based on your skin’s needs: Hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid work well for dry skin, while niacinamide or salicylic acid are great for refining pores and controlling oil. Avoid toners with high alcohol content, as they can dry out the skin.

Step 4: Serum
Serums are concentrated formulas designed to target specific skin concerns, such as hydration, acne, brightening, or anti-aging. Apply a few drops before your moisturizer, gently patting it into the skin for better absorption. Using too much won’t enhance effectiveness and can lead to irritation. It’s also important to pair ingredients correctly: for instance, vitamin C shouldn’t be mixed with acids or retinol, while hyaluronic acid complements any routine.

Step 5: Eye Care
The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate, requiring special care. Eye cream helps hydrate, reduce puffiness, and prevent fine lines. Apply it gently with your ring finger, using a tapping motion from the outer corner to the inner corner of the eye. Avoid placing the cream too close to the lash line to prevent irritation and swelling.

Step 6: Moisturizing
A good moisturizer locks in hydration and strengthens the skin’s protective barrier. Day creams protect against environmental stressors, while night creams aid in overnight repair. Apply using light strokes, moving from the center of the face outward. Even oily skin needs moisture – opt for lightweight, non-greasy formulas to keep the skin balanced.

Step 7: Overnight Mask
For an extra boost, incorporate a nighttime treatment to enhance your skincare results. Facial oils help seal in moisture and reinforce the skin barrier, while overnight masks provide deep hydration and nourishment as you sleep. Use oils after your moisturizer if your skin leans dry, and apply an overnight mask 1–2 times a week instead of your usual night cream. Remember, oils don’t replace hydration but rather enhance it, so they should be used in conjunction with moisturizers.

By following these seven steps, you can build an effective routine tailored to your skin’s needs. Selecting the right products, maintaining a consistent order of application, and avoiding unnecessary steps will help your skin stay healthy, balanced, and glowing.
