The golden rule of vacation

A jewelry checklist for summer travel

Heat, sun-kissed skin tinged with salt, ice cream halfway to melting – summer calls not only for the sea but for freedom of style. And while we pare our vacation wardrobe down to a capsule, our jewelry deserves the same carefully curated approach.

Here, a simple formula applies: less is better. Leave behind anything heavy and complicated, replacing it with versatile, lightweight pieces that mix easily and suit everything, from a beach shirt to an evening dress on the terrace. Smooth mini-chains, thin rings, minimalist earrings – the foundation that will complement any makeup and outfit. Add one or two statement pairs of earrings – for example, sculptural yet weightless – for dinners, when the sun sets, and your look calls for a touch of contrast.

Packing is your first level of protection. Place each piece of jewelry in a separate soft pouch or zip bag – snug but careful. Only in your carry-on – checked luggage does not forgive negligence. Ideally, the pouches should be fabric, especially for chains and gemstones: this prevents scratches and tangling into a knot at the bottom of your suitcase.

And don’t forget about care. Jewelry dislikes creams, perfumes, sunscreen oils, seawater, and especially sand. Take off rings before the pool, don’t wear bracelets to the beach, and never leave jewelry under direct sunlight: it can change the color of the coating or make the metal brittle.

Vacation is no reason to turn jewelry down. On the contrary, it’s the perfect moment to feel especially beautiful and light. Just give your jewelry the same care you give your skin – and it will stay with you for a long time, preserving the scent of summer even in the grayest October.
